Book Binding...

We were given the opportunity to attend a book binding workshop which primarily was to show us ways we could present our trend forecast...This was a really interesting technique/skill to learn and the images below show my first completed book, (maybe out of scrap paper but still pretty impressive!)...

Fabric Sampling...

This selection of images is of the start of my fabric sampling and experimentation...

These first 4 images are of a stitch exercise which was to create a grid and then fill with a selection of different hand stitches and different ways of using that stitch...The stitches included fly stitch, french knot, cross stitch, seed stitch and chain stitch...

The next 2 images are the start of a similar exercise as the one above...these show the attachment of blue cable using french knots and a secure stitch...

The 3 below are showing experimentation with hand smocking using different materials and different pattern structures...

The image underneath is of my first attempt at trapunto...the process of creating a shape and then stuffing with another material,objects....

Finally this image below is a small experimental sample of combining hand smocking, trapunto and embellishment...

Initial Research, Drawings and Photographs...

Here is a selection of images from the first stages of this project...Some of the drawings have been part created with a group or created by a creative game or exercise...such as listening to a selection of electronic noises whilst letting our pen take the response...

New Term.New Project.

Thought it was about time I started posting some work from my now second year of university...Our new project is titled 'Bleep' which is all about  learning how to predict, read and express textile trends...Bleep is a trend story which was presented to us by Global Color Research and is based largely on playful technology, bold primary colours and shapes...with this information and colour palette, the project is for us to take a personal approach within our specialism to forecast the trend...Things could get exciting!
